I can't believe how much we put Mrs. Aschbrenner's teaching credential at risk with the parties G.V. hosted (often without his mom's permission).

Remember parties at "The slab?" There was always a party on Neptune or Grandview and the Proctors had a wild apartment on Vulcan.
Also, here's a goody...remember when they were building the hills of La Costa and there were all of those streets and culdesacs leading to nowhere? That was crazy fun too. Drunken Skateboarders bombing those hills!

I remember having our folks drop us in front of the bowling ally in Leucadia, then sneaking out the west-side door, heading down to Beach and Town liquor to have someone buy us sloe gin, then we were off to Moonlight to hang behind the bathrooms!
And yes JudyJudyJudy... The Slab, and The Water Tower in La Costa...

Sooz! Sloe Gin...Yuck! I remember that stuff. It tasted like cherry cough syrup.
How many used to go to Box Canyon? Steve and I went there once about 10 years ago. I though I was going to kill myself on the way down.
I'm not sure if it's there anymore because of the new developments. Anyone know?

Lets not forget about Black Mountain. Remember when there was nothing out there? We would go to those parties where someone had built a stage and they used generators for the bands. That reminds me of how they got juice at the slab. They ran extention cords from the house that was behind it. Those were some good times huh?

Of what I can remember of Saturday night- It was a blast! I don't drink that often so it doesn't take much to get me going!
It seems that the time just flew by. Dancing was so much fun- the music was perfect. I really can't think of anything to change - you guys did a great job. Thank you!

The time definitely FLEW on Saturday night. It was so great to see everyone - I can't remember the last time I laughed that much!

I don't have any constructive feedback because I thought the reunion was magical.

We all grew-up to be really nice people and all who attended were just a joy to be around.

Thank you Tony for getting it all together you're the glue and I can't wait to see you again.

Becky and Pam, you married wonderful men both Dave and Mitch helped everyone feel included in the reunion. I would have eaten dinner alone if not for Mitch (I'm obviously still a shy person)

There are so many people that I was over joyed to see that there's too many names to list but it had been too long for me to not see Craig and making the connections were priceless.

My wife took a bunch of pictures and we'll find out how to create a photo album on this site.

Howdy reunion committee,
Had a blast and it went to fast! From golf Friday (thanks, Joel) to Yogi's (of what I can remember) to the shindig Saturday night (Ross and I were always alike.............shy, introverted types), all was perfect! I think we have the right group together, after 30+ years, to make this thing last the next 30!
All the committee members get my gracious thanks and appreciation for pulling off what must have seemed insurmountable. Only feedback I could come up with is joining with some other classes next time. Maybe two ahead and two behind..........or something like that. I swear.............this is NOT my wife typing!

Horse, What a great idea to consider having a multi class reunion! I think it would be a hoot to include the classes mentioned. I think the alumni sites have the class reps so it shouldnt be that hard to accomplish. Tony, maybe we should send this idea out as a blog???

I had a great time as well! I think back on all of the events...golf (have you guys heard about sunscreen?! All RED faced in the pictures not just from BOOZE!!), Becky having ME drive the golf cart!!! Yogi's (trying to figure out who everyone was!) and Saturday night (dancing our butts off) and laugh to myself.
I am still laughing. It was a great night and did go by much too quickly. I think we should set up some Roadhouse nights with the old locals and anyone who comes into town, let us know and we'll meet up.
Also, I do want to thank Tony and Joel for all that they did contribute to our 31st reunion, thanks guys!

Oh, PERFECT question!! I just drove through Encinitas on Saturday and for some weird reason I started thinking about the "Home Grown" albums they used to make. Does anyone have one of those??? That would be AWESOME to play!!!!!

How bout Seals and Crofts "We may never pass this way again" ? I know it's a bit before '77 but I think it befitting since a reunion IS passing "this way again" kinda sorta.

I would rate my high school experience as a 5 out of 10. Like today, there were alot of un-accepting "clicks" at our school and unfortunately I found myself spending too much time trying to "fit in" and not concentrating on the real reason I was there.
If I could go back, with the knowledge I have today, I would have spent more time in class, concentrating on learning and not worrying who was my friend or not, or if I was "popular".
It takes having your own children to realize how un-important that all is.

My rating would have to be a 4 ,,WOW,, now that I'm much older and wiser I know I would of been more into school,and a much nicer person, I got along with almost everyone and thats a good thing but spent to much time parting and being the badazz party chick, going out with older badazz guys for there cars lol,

I think that my high school experience at San Dieguito would rate a 9 out of 10 (nothing is perfect). I was able to have a social life and gain a great education that prepared me for college and some of my life’s journeys. I was so fortunate to have a stable family, have a wide variety of friends from different "clicks", stay out of trouble and attend a very small populated high school in a very small community. If I were given the opportunity to go back I think I would change a few things about myself but not much. I like the person I have become and that is all due to my past which included high school. We were so lucky back then. We weren’t subjected to the stress that kids have today trying to make a place for themselves socially, economically and educationally. The average curriculum in high school today for Jr's and Sr's surpass my 1^st and 2^nd years of college taking 18 units of core classes per semester. Times have definitely changed and to tell you the truth, I have so many more fond memories then not being a part of the SDHS Mustang population.

I guess I forgot to say i love the person I am today!! I waited 45 years for my soul partner and worth the wait ,I was a Adult Caregiver for cancer/stroke victims for over 16 years i do think that takes a special person, Im VERY happy with the person I am today I am stress free loved for who i am not who i could of been , I treat people as I like to be treated and respect other as they should be and i tried doing that in school also, I have a very wonderful family sisters are nurse's and brother is a Doctor in Dallas, sorry cant believe no one had problems while in any school, there was soooo much drugs and drinking if anyone says thats not true you better come out from under your blanket , and sexxxx omg lol if cars and the beach could only talk lolol tooo funny, theres soooooo much more I could say but wont lol

High School was a 7...Going to day school, night school and working two jobs prepared me for the reality of life...

GO BACK TO HIGH SCHOOL...if I could. NO WAY!!!

In high school we were young, stupid, heartless, careless and reckless.....

but we thought we were adults, brilliant, self important, carefree and bulletproof...... No... I am definitely over it!

I must say my high school exp. was at least an 8 or maybe 9. I met some really fantastic people who impacted my life in a really wonderful way that has stayed with me all these years!! I will NEVER forget you guys!! I also learned: to play guitar, speak in public, how to care for children (remember the childcare facility at the top of the hill?) sew really really well and became a good enough gymnast, that later in life, coaching gymnastics became my career and I had the opportunity to coach America's first Olympic Trampoline-ist !! (yes, it is an Olympic Sport, and yes, I was called a "Tramp" Coach haha) I have used the sewing knowledge sew much in sew many ways... even making costumes for major productions as a side job, too much fun! I have no regrets. The opportunity to take night classes was awesome too. I actually felt very prepared and confident to take on life upon graduating. Most importantly we were allowed to still be "kids" unlike my kids who have had to grow up way too fast & under way too much pressure!!
They don't believe me when I tell them we had surf p.e. and built sand castles in the sand volleyball court and could kick it on a big grass hill, eating those yummy cookie-type bars (what were they called?) and see the ocean between classes, oh ya and walk down to 7-11 for candy runs hahaha. Ah yes good times, good times.
I wouldn't want to go back necessarily but I am looking forward to reminiscing with all of my awesome classmates!! Love to you all.

I have the recipe for those peanut butter bars! My Mom got it from one of the cafeteria ladies way back when. The recipe is for like 500 so you have to cut it down, but they are just the same...Yummy! HI Cam!

I missed those Peanut Buttter Squares so much I spent 30 years trying to recreate the receipe. I think I figured it in Jan. 2008 and I almost called Judy to see if she would come by and taste test. (teehee) OOOps they are all gone!

I have the recipe. The posted it on the Alumni newsletter. The recipe is from Edna Palmer who is now retired. I have to say that the first patch was much to sweet so i decreased the sugar and they were fine!!!! Let me know if you would like the recipe and I will post it as a blog. rm

NO BAKE PEANUT BUTTER COOKIE BARS:::::
FROM MRS EDNA PALMER-San Dieguito High School

ingredients:

*1 1/2 LBS SUGAR (3 3/8 CUPS)
I REDUCED THIS TO 2 3/4 CUPS

* 3/4 cup plus 1/8 C milk

* 2 cups old fashion oatmeal

*3/4 cup plus 1/8 cup peanut butter

*1 tsp vanilla

Combine the sugar and milk in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Boil for one minute then add vanilla.

Remove from the heat and add peanut butter. After it melts in to the mixture add the oatmeal and mix well.

Pour into unbuttered 9 x 13 inch pan.

When nearly cool, cut into bars.

CHRISTY, IS THIS RECIPE CLOSE TO YOURS?? IF NOT CAN I HAVE YOURS? EMAIL ME WITH IT.

I would have to rate it at least an 8! I had a lot of geat friends male and female. Every now and then I pull out my yearbook and wonder what happened to everyone. Ya, we probably drank to much beer (don't tell my Mom, Cameron) but I hope most of us turned out O.K.! Hanging out at Moonlight beach, the fair and San Felipe was always fun. I would'nt change anything except I'd probably study harder!

It was a great time and, in retrospect, we should all appreciate the freedom we were given to grow as people. San Dieguito, 1977, was special --as a matter of fact, it was one of the last "open campuses" in California. Leonard Morris, basically, was fired because he treated us like young adults rather than cattle. I realize that everyones' experience was different, but the fact is, we were a close class-- dating back to Oak Crest (and Ocean Knoll). I wouldn't trade it for the world.

I have to agree whole -heartedly. Sure, I can recall a few not so great times-mostly caused by my own bad judgment ! I feel very fortunate to have grown up in the area & era that we called ours. It was laid back but exciting at the same time. Center court, assemblies in the amp out theater, dances...
parties !! Fun & funny clothes & hair! And most cherished -- meeting and making all kinds of friends.

I spent only the last 2 yrs. of HS at San Dieguito having moved from the rather strict schools in N.Y. My experience was generally excellent despite being shy and reclusive. Given a re-do I'd become more involved in extracurricular activities and have better enjoyed those formative years. That said, having read some of the previous comments perhaps it's best we cannot turn back the clock!

I think my first "crush with a kiss" was with Kenny Ispas at an Oak Crest dance in 7th grade.

I didn't move as quick as Pam. In Kindergarten I was sent to the Principal for pulling a girls chair out when she was getting ready to sit down.

In 7th grade I put my arm around Theresa Jackson in the back seat of Betsy Putnam's parents car at the drive-in theater. My first kiss was with Shana Slingerland that summer. But then school started and she wasn't interested in hanging out with a lowly 8th grader.

My first real boyfriend was in 6th Grade. After 6th grade camp, Kenny Ispas (who didn't go to Ocean Knoll) tracted me down and a left a cute note on my front door to meet him across the street at my school swings, which of course I did. I remember going to see my all time favorite movie with him, Gone with the Wind. I believe a kiss occured at the Eke Field Baseball games.....

My first crush was a boy by the name of Robert Yale who was considered one of the "bad boys at Cardiff Elementary" along with Dean (Deanie) Kershner, Andy Yule, Andy Mote, Myron Stam, and Jeff Hutton. PAM, AM I MISSING ANY ONE??? HAHAHAHA Well although I was hoping that Robert would be my first real kiss he wasnt. My first real kiss was with Deanie Kershner in 5th or 6th grade under my pool table, at my house, during a family party. Our families were friends before they moved to Glosgow Drive in Cardiff..... What ever happened to Robert Yale???? He moved away while we were in high school...... And for those that knew Deanie, he passed away in his early 20's while living in orange county.

I guess I was a bit of a late "crush" bloomer... until Senior year of HS I just always had a lot of guy friends (I am somewhat of a tom-boy myself) that I kinda dated. I made my rounds with the kisses cuz they wanted someone to practice on, but didn't really have any feelings of, "ooooo, I really want to be his girlfriend" or, "Dang, I sure wish he'd kiss me" until I met 2 guys at SDHS... 1) Cameron (that's 2 votes for you now haha) and 2) Allan Robinette.. I had it bad for both of them and tried as I may, never got a kiss from Allan and didn't get one from Cam until well after graduation! But may I say, it was WELL worth the wait!! hahaha Obviously, nothing ever developed between us but I still nabbed that kiss!! mmmwwwaaahhhaahhaa
Allan, if you're out there somewhere... we have some unfinished business!!! hahahaha :D

I hardly even remember my teachers- that's what an impression they left-
My daughter actually had Mr Herms at La Costa Canyon. I went in and introduced myself as one of his former students and of course he didn't remember me, so I guess I didn't leave much of an impression on him either!

Mr. Herms taught Biology, Oceanography, Geometry and various math associated subjects. He was a spitter!
Also, remember that old guy that used to teach History that use to slobber when he talked? What was his name? He had long scary spindly fingers.We always used to say we were going to the bathroom and never came back.

Buzz Ponce was a great guy! Highly misunderstood because he took over for Mrs. Ashbrenner. Was working for Jostens' last I heard from him. Those were weird times in retrospect with Torrey Pines splitting off, etc.. . I think Mr. Morris was a good guy too!

I would say my favorite teachers were Melody Martin (the arm!), Mr. Hewitson (mad scientist), Mr. Newcomb, Mrs. Hicks, and Mrs. Worthington. Now strictly for entertainment, not education by any means, were Mr.Witty, Mr. Irwin (Urine), Mr. Datorre, and who was the history teacher with all his fingers the same length? We called him the “Cracker Jack’s Man,” from the commercial!

Ms. Martin gave me such crap for wanting to be a wife and mother...that is probably why being a wife never really worked for me (tee hee)...But I am an awesome mom! wink

Mr Powell was very strange but he really gave me a longing to know more about and a love for history...When I went to Virginia and started seeing where the history of our country took place...Mr. Powell's spirit was in everything I saw.

My typing stills sucks...I hated that teacher!!!

Harry Powell was indded a very bright and humble guy. I married his daughter Natalie and got to know him briefly before he passed away when she was 19. He was so hilarious and had a passion for travel and history of course.

I didn't know him as family until after I graduated but he was a very bright man who loved teaching.

Who can ever forget movie day in his class? He would fall asleep and remind us not to jump out the windows and go into the quad!!!

Favorite teacher by far was Ms. Martin. She had a great heart and enjoyed ribbing students inclined toward the "gasses and vapors" vocations. I'll never forget her admonitions to avoid "touchy-feely" writing styles.
Sadly, she passed away a number of years ago.
Least favorite was Mr. Vredeveld for math. His trademark dandruff made me gag!
And then there was Mr. Hewitson hazing students by feeding mice to his snakes...
Mrs. Rich actually made typing an attractive (!) period.
Finally, anyone recall Coach Morgan? IIRC he taught American Government.... did jail time for sex with students!

When I think of high school, I think of COMMANDO-ING! I also think of blender drinks at my house before heading to Linda Kimura's party. I remember having a sleepover with Pamela and Becky in my parent's big bed while they were out of town; Francisca asking if us girls wanted to go in the "Ya-huzzi", Jeffrey the Ram in the bottom pasture, Joey singing, "Missippi Queen", Diana teaching us all how to imbibe in her trailer, Donna F. being my protector, Darryl calling me "Compact", Tom Field imitating his Minnesota relatives by saying "Churry Ice Cream" (I know--it's only funny to me!), all my Drama buddies--including Brian Rowe who saved my hide more than once with Mr. Liggett, skateboard contests, surfing contests, cheerleading, Spanish IV with Joel Maloney, ditching class to drive to Del Mar for this new thing called "Frozen Yogurt", Cathy Meyer's beauty contest! My beloved summer days at the Del Mar Fair showing my 4-H pigs, being Brian Eischen's locker neighbor and always checking out what book he was reading, hanging out at Stone Steps with Diana and Suzanne Tholl, studying math with my neighbor Sandy Moreno, riding the bus to school, recording the "Leucadia" song with Diana--and the thrill of having it chosen for the "Homegrown" album! There is lots more that I hope I can share with you all in person! Can't wait to see you all!
